Case: Roche Pharma, Innovation for Health (Seresco)

The Roche Group, which has its headquarters in Basle and 140 offices around the world, is one of the leading companies in the global healthcare industry. Since its foundation in 1896 by Fritz Hoffmann-La Roche, and through its dedication to innovation, Roche has continually worked towards improving patients’ health and quality of life. In Spain, the company has offices in six locations, including Madrid, Leganés, Barcelona, Getafe and San Cugat, and in 2009 recorded turnover in excess of 1.1 billion euros, employing a total of 1,928 staff across its two divisions: Roche Pharma, with 1,245 employees, and Roche Diagnostics, with 683.

The Requirement

Following 10 years of collaboration between Seresco and Roche for the outsourcing of payroll management for its 1,400 employees, Roche wanted to establish an employee portal.

The Solution

An employee portal was set up that enabled Roche Pharma’s 1,400 employees to improve their communication with the company. Via password-controlled access, they were able to view details of their monthly salary and their annual certificate of income-tax deductions. The employees’ use of the portal as a source of all their pay-related information promoted their self-management, while relieving the HR Department of many of the small-scale operations it carried out and removing the task of generating duplicates. It also represented major savings in paper use for Roche. After the consolidation of this stage of the project, Roche Pharma wanted to go a step further and, using the same tool, facilitate the management of shifts, overtime, requests for leave and loan applications.

The Benefits

In the words of Carolina Martínez, HR Manager at Roche: “the new portal we’ve developed in partnership with Seresco has allowed us to improve our channels of communication with our staff and increase both the information available and the actions that can be performed via this new tool”.
