The New Age of Payroll Professionals27th Jul 2018
The world is changing at an impressive pace, and organizations need to ensure they are evolving at the same rate. HR and payroll teams around the world are an essential part of any organization, not just a back-office and administrative function that can’t evolve and progress.
So, how can HR and payroll teams around the world adapt to thrive, and become the new page of payroll professionals?
1/ Fluent in Data Privacy
Data is everywhere, but its privacy should be respected. With GDPR now thoroughly introduced in the EU—and new legislations not far away—the new page of payroll professionals need to be fluent in data privacy, and understand what they, and their organizations, need to do to remain compliant.
HR and payroll teams handle sensitive, personal employee data, so it’s imperative that data privacy is top of payroll’s agenda. By maintaining a data register, ensuring that third party providers are compliant, and explaining GDPR to colleagues via an intranet page, payroll professionals will be data-ready, and will remain compliant.
2/ Down with Digital
The world is now more digital than ever before. The number of mobile phone users in the world is expected to pass the five billion mark by 2019 according to Statista. Employees now expect the workplace to be as digital as their home lives, especially with the workplace now bursting with Millennials, and Generation Z also entering the workforce.
So, how can payroll teams embrace digital? By automating back-office and mundane tasks, HR teams can continue to focus on the human-aspect of the work. Alongside automation, workplaces should also introduce capabilities that are in line with current technology, including digital assistants. A digital workplace will not only attract employees, it will also allow employees to embrace technology in their roles and streamline tasks.
3/ Global focus, local understanding
As the world becomes more globalized, so do employees. Technology and interconnectivity now make it easy for an employee to work remotely, or around the other side of the world. Because of this, payroll professionals should keep an open mind to employees that aren’t office based.
As a company—and employees—expand globally, keeping track of payroll that encompasses local legislation and laws can be difficult. By working with an international payroll service provider, however, it’s much easier to keep track of where employees are, and how much they should be paid. The new age of payroll professional should embrace both a global and a local mindset.
By embracing digital, understanding data, and implementing a global mindset, HR and payroll teams around the world will be able to thrive, and will become the new age of payroll professionals.
